LMC Votes! hosts lunch and learn event on 26th Amendment
To celebrate Constitution Day,ÌýÂ黨ÐÇ¿ÕmvÌýand LMC Votes! isÌýhosting a lunch and learn event on the 26thÌýAmendment at 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 27 in Rooms 1304-1306 of the Todd Center on the Benton Harbor campus.Ìý
Attendees are encouraged to bring their lunchÌýand listen as Dan Carrick, the District Director for Michigan Sen. Kim LaSata, R-Bainbridge Township, and Berrien County Commissioner Rayonte Bell,ÌýD-St. Joseph Township, give presentations on theÌýimportance of the youth voteÌýasÌýrelated to the 26thÌýAmendment. The presentations will be followed by a moderatedÌýquestion and answerÌýsession.Ìý
CarrickÌýis a lifelong St. Joseph resident. HisÌýrole underÌýLaSataÌýincludesÌýconstituent casework, community outreach, and attending events, meetings, or ceremonies on behalf ofÌýtheÌýSenator. Prior to servingÌýLaSata,ÌýCarrickÌýwas a Campaign Field Manager forÌýU.S. Rep.ÌýFred Upton, R-St. JosephÌýfor the 2018Ìýelection cycle where he oversaw field volunteers and on-the-ground campaign activities.  Ìý
Bell, a native of Benton Harbor,Ìýwas elected to the Berrien County Board of Commissioners, representing the 5th district in November 2020. He currently serves on the Personnel & Human Services Committee, as well as many other subcommittees for Berrien County.ÌýBell alsoÌýserves as a member of the Population Health Committee for SpectrumÌýHealthÌýLakeland, the Racial Equity Chamber of Benton Harbor, and as a Clean Water Ambassador for the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy.Ìý

Through LMCÌýVotes!,Ìýstudents gain hands-on experience staffing voter registration tables, giving presentations, organizing chat forums, and keeping students informed about candidates. They also hear guest speakers, practice analyzing voter data using Statistical Analysis Software, and learn about fiscal budgeting.ÌýBecause of these efforts, LMCÌýwasÌýdesignatedÌýa “Voter Friendly Campusâ€Ìýin 2019 for work during the 2018 mid-term election, and 2021 for work during the 2020 election.Ìý
