A law enforcement career can lead you to be a policeÌýofficer in almost any geographic area of the country.ÌýAs a police officer in a rural area, you may performÌýa wide variety of activities including directing trafficÌýat the scene of a crime, investigating a burglary,Ìýor giving first aid to an accident victim. In a largerÌýpolice department, your duties may be more specific.Ìý
Most police academies in Michigan are operated byÌýcommunity colleges. Some of the larger departmentsÌýin the state, such as the Wayne County Sheriff’sÌýOffice or Detroit Police Department also operate theirÌýown academies.
Tuition for the Police academy is a flat fee based on either the student or the sponsor’s residency.Ìý Students currently employed by an agency who is sponsoring the student will be charged based on the residency of the agency.Ìý Students who are not currently employed by an agency and are self-pay are charged based on the student’s residency as outlined in the Tuition and Residency policy.
