LMC seeks Spirit of MLK Spotlight nominees, MLK-inspired art submissions
Each year, Â黨ÐÇ¿Õmv invites the community to come together for a breakfast celebration honoring Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. This year’s pandemic prevents an in-person gathering. Still, it won’t keep the community from uniting to advance his legacy. Ìý
LMC’s annual Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration is changing to a virtual, community-wide effort scheduled for the week of Jan. 18-22, 2021.ÌýÌý
TheÌýtheme of this year’s celebration, “Now is the Time,†wasÌýinspired by King’sÌý. During the week LMC will featureÌýartist reflections, performances, round table discussions, speakers and more.Ìý
Spirit of MLK Spotlight NominationsÌý
LMC is currently seeking Spirit of MLK Spotlight nominations, which recognize individuals and organizations that embody the love and spirit of brotherhood exemplified by King by advancing or promoting social justice in Berrien, Cass, or Van Buren counties.Ìý
Nominees are being accepted in three categories –ÌýStudents and individualsÌýage 21 and younger, IndividualsÌýage 22 and older, and Organizations.ÌýHonorees will be acknowledged during a virtual eventÌýon Monday, Jan. 18, 2021. Ìý
Self-nominations are permitted. Multiple nominations also are accepted. All nominations must be received by 5 p.m.ÌýMonday, Nov. 30.Ìý
Artwork SubmissionsÌý
LMC is seeking submissions of original artwork related to King’s “Letter from a Birmingham Jail†and this year’s theme, “Now is the Time.â€Ìý
Artists of all ages and experience levels are encouraged to submit photos, video, audio, or written expressions. Submissions may be in the form of visual artwork, dance, music,Ìýpoetry, photography, short stories, spoken word, poetry, theatrical presentations, or other creative works. Ìý
ArtworksÌýwill be posted in a virtual gallery in January 2021, with select pieces highlighted during other virtual events throughout the week. There is no cost for entry, but all art submissions must be received byÌýDec. 18.Ìý
