LMC basketball seasons canceled, volleyball will continue
Â黨ÐÇ¿Õmv has canceled the 2021 seasons for both men’s and women’s basketball due to COVID-19.ÌýVolleyballÌýis scheduledÌýto continue as planned.ÌýÌý
The decision follows the new Michigan Department of Health and Human ServicesÌýÌýreleased Jan. 13, which extends theÌýpreviousÌýban on non-professional contact sports through Sunday, Jan. 31.ÌýThe same order allows non-contact sports, including volleyball, to begin practicesÌýon Jan. 16.Ìý
“We know this isn’t the news our student-athletes and our fans were hoping to hear, and weÌýshare thatÌýdisappointment,†LMC Athletic Director Melissa Grau said. “Looking at a further shortened seasonÌýand continued safety concerns, we had to decide what was best for our student-athletes going forward.â€Ìý
Grau said thatÌýLMC wouldÌýhonor all basketball scholarships for student-athletes whoseÌýseasons wereÌýcanceled.ÌýSpring semester classesÌýare scheduled to begin on Jan. 19.ÌýStudent-athletes willÌýbe requiredÌýtoÌýmaintainÌýacademicÌýperformanceÌýstandards.ÌýStudent-athletesÌýwhose seasonsÌýwere canceledÌýwill be eligible to play anÌýadditionalÌýyear if they choose to.Ìý
