In cooperation with local employers, Lake MichiganÌýCollege provides training for men and womenÌýenrolled in formal apprenticeship agreementsÌýapproved by the U.S. Department of Labor, Office ofÌýApprenticeship and Training. Such training programsÌýinclude academic instruction as well as on-the-jobÌýtraining and usually take a minimum of two to fourÌýyears to complete.Ìý
The associate degree is designed for thoseÌýapprentices that have received a CompletionÌýCertificate from the U.S. Department of Labor orÌýpossess a journeyman card. The degree incorporatesÌýthe courses taken during the student’s apprenticeshipÌýtraining, additional advanced level courses, andÌýgeneral education courses. Upon completion of theÌýdegree program with a minimum of 60 credit hours,Ìýa student may apply for an Associate in AppliedÌýScience degree.
At least 36 hours of credit from a Department of Labor (DOL) registered
apprenticeship is required. These courses should be part of a planned
program of study as designed by the advisor to meet your interests and
your employer’s needs.
