Reverend William Whitfield has dedicated his life to serving both his community and his country, donning many hats along the way. In his roles as a United States Air Force veteran, pastor, volunteer for the local housing commission, and mentor for youth in the Benton Harbor area, Whitfield has consistently made a difference.

Now, he adds another accolade to his impressive list of achievements—the Gladys Peeples-Burks Alumni Service Award from �黨�ǿ�mv. This award is named after Dr. Gladys Peeples-Burks, a member of the first graduating class of Benton Harbor Junior College (now �黨�ǿ�mv) and tireless advocate for the College and her community. It recognizes alumni who have made significant personal or professional contributions to
the College or the broader community.

“LMC was my choice because my brother attended LMC and it was local and close to home,” Whitfield explained. “And every expectation was fulfilled by the LMC Technical Department. My drafting instructor, Mr. T. Reappa, had a profound impact on my life and career. He was the reason I became a draftsman at Clark Equipment Company,” Whitfield said.

A 1974 graduate of LMC, Whitfield built a successful 31-year career with Volvo Construction Equipment. He later pursued further education, earning a bachelor’s degree in theology and a Master of Divinity in Counseling from Christian Bible College and Seminary. Today, he serves as pastor of Fellowship Baptist Mission Church, while continuing his work as secretary for the Southwest Michigan Ministerial Alliance and his volunteer efforts with the Benton Township Housing Commission.
